Positive effect of Plant based vegan diet and Herbal treatment on rising Microalbuminuria and increased creatinine (Early Renal Failure)

80 years old male type 2 Diabetic and with known history of Prostate cancer operated two years ago and now in full remission; Came to me in the month of July 2024 with the reports of increased urinary microalbumin around 400 and Serum creatinine of 1.83 and eGFR of 36.

For few months there was no response to the treatment. And his urinary Microalbumin increased to 758 and 865 in November and December 2024 respectively. So Later from the month of December he was ready to follow no dairy and plant based vegan diet.

After four months of the plant based vegan diet his today’s reports are as follows:
Creatinine – 1.30
eGFR – 53
Urinary Microalbumin – 405
Weight – 58.6
(it was 60.20 kg. in December 2024)

Discussion: Diabetics are prone to develop renal damage earlier than others. Increasing excretion of Microalbumin from the urine is an indicative of nephropathy and early renal failure. As his serum creatinine was also increasing and glomerulo filtration rate was too deteriorating, the only option would have been dialysis but at the age of 80, Dialysis would have been a difficult task for him from every aspect.

There are certain proven herbal remedies which can help to arrest the renal damage but one has to follow a strict diet too with it. Initially patient was reluctant to give up milk and milk products and in fact was asked to have lots of paneer etc. by a treating physician to improve or maintain his bone and muscle health. But as his Microalbumin was increasing, he ultimately was convinced and started strictly following the *Plant based vegan diet thereafter he started responding fast. Without any weakness or visible muscle loss.

He is having Almond Milk and Curd of it. Plus, all other veggies beans and fruits. (his potassium is normal)

Conclusion: Plant based vegan diet is essential for the treatment of Nephropathy to prevent renal failure.
