Effect of plant based vegan diet and evidence based Ayurveda treatment on Ankylosing Spondylitis

42 years old female was referred to me for her Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Which was diagnosed in 2019 when evaluated for Low back pain, Tarsal pain, should pain and early morning stiffness etc. she was consuming pain killers almost daily and steroids intermittently. Her HLA b27 is positive. On clinical examination, FABER at both the hip, especially right was strongly positive.

Other medical history: She also had Mitral valve prolapse and Selective ablation was done for her Supra ventricular tachycardia. She was on Ecosprin, Seloken XL 25 and Tab Inderal 25 mg daily.

Ayurveda treatment: Mainly includes Pachan and mild weekly Virechan with castor oil, Plus Sallaki.

Diet: No dairy, No Wheat. No Sugar. Replaced by Almond or coconut milk, Millets and little jaggery.

Outcome: No improvement in first month. But thereafter slowly started improving and today after almost three months, her pain score is not more than 3 or 4 and her need of painkillers reduced to once or twice in a month (Only if heavy exertion done). No steroids taken
Initially lost two to three kgs but now regained to initial weight.
Morning stiffness completely resolved. Doing all household work. Even husband started eating millets and drinking black tea. (can’t afford almond milk so both are having black tea).

Conclusion: Ankylosing spondylitis can be well managed and kept in a remission with Plant based vegan diet and evidence based Ayurveda treatment protocol
